If you long for your living to bring healing and liberation in this world.
If you thirst to do justice and practice mercy.
If you are open to explore the corridors of your heart and the streets of society – seeing how they might mirror each other – the personal and political – the spiritual and structural.

I offer you not coaching nor spiritual direction, but accompaniment along the way.

I offer a slow walk with you.

The Bell, Banners and Blasphemy

The bell, banners, & blasphemy

by Alan Storey
WINNER of the 2025 Andrew Murray Desmond Tutu Prize

A church that is silent in the presence of injustice is no church at all, yet we seldom find any church community willing to speak risky words of truth, justice and compassion in the public square.

This book is about one such church community: The Central Methodist Mission (CMM) in Cape Town. Strategically placed on the city’s iconic Greenmarket Square, CMM has used its soaring spire and “a little bit of civil disobedience” to speak to the city, unmasking callous systems of power and privilege, and championing those who are bruised and broken by them.

Lavish full-colour illustrations introduce us to the famous Yellow Banners that have hung from the church tower, each one boldly placarding a radical, Jesus-shaped response to a topical public issue of the day. Each chapter describes the absorbing historical context that has accompanied each Yellow Banner, as well as their rooting in theology.

The story of The bell, banners & blasphemy is a challenge not only to people of faith, but to everyone to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly”.
